This is a true story of the author's growing up during the depression and adventures of his life's journey. It is full of unique stories and his cherished memories. James grew up in a small rural farming community in southern Indiana and learned the meaning of hard work and Christian living. It was a difficult time during the Great Depression, but there were many exciting times for a young boy living on a farm on the banks of the Wabash-Erie Canal near Clark's Station. This autobiography includes his journey to college where he entered the School of Forestry at Purdue University. He spent the summer of 1942 fighting fires with the national forest service in Montana, which provided unexpected training that would prepare him for unexpected events that were on the horizon. For it was that fall the United States entered WWII. James was later drafted into the US Army where he served on the front lines in the Battle of Okinawa and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. The author takes you along with him through his life's journey and shares how God's grace shaped his destiny.
