Shirley Horn is a talented jazz vocalist/pianist who has been recording since the early 1960s. Her delicate voice was an inspiration to Miles Davis, who performed three standards on his disc, Seven Steps to Heaven after hearing Horn's evocative interpretations. On I Remember Miles, Horn pays tribute to the late trumpeter by singing those standards ("Basin Street Blues," "Baby Won't You Please Come Home," and "I Fall in Love Too Easily") and reprising a trio of tunes from Porgy And Bess. Review
Don't expect a session of Ms. Horn lyricizing instrumental Miles Davis classics; that's simply not her thing. What she does do is invest loads of her huge heart and boundless warmth in nine pieces largely associated with the acoustic Davis, ranging from familiars like "My Funny Valentine," to simmering swingers like "Basin St. Blues." -- Jazz Times
Full of real warmth and obvious admiration, singer-pianist Horn's latest album is more informed than the usual tribute.... The nine songs on this album were all associated with the trumpeter, and Horn even used Davis's longtime bassist Ron Carter and his drummer Al Foster to supplement her own rhythm section. But she is clearly the star of this project. -- People, ISBN13: B000007OWQ ISBN10: B000007OWQ Material Type: audioCD
