his virtuosic command of the instrument to elicit infinite color from the keyboard, creating the maximum impact -- Ben Waltzeer, The New York Times
Product Description
Creating influential Jazz for more than half a century, the pianist's second Dreyfus Jazz release, "In Search Of. . .Momentum," features an arresting amalgam of originals and treasured standards played by a trio of choice, long-time collaborators, James Cammack on bass and Iris Muhammad on drums.
From the Artist
"I'm a wordless storyteller, someone who cares about the dynamics of music because musical dynamics are human dynamics. I've tried every context imaginable, but the trio is the most demanding. The trio allows me a lot of space. Playing at optimum level is the challenge. What's necessary for me is establishing a meaningful statement musically, the value lies in my skill to interpret a song. We are in the midst of a very prolific period and this release has me thinking about the next one. I'm excited about what we recorded here, as well as what's waiting to be recorded. It's still always exciting for me to sit down at the piano, and every time I do, something new happens, something surprises me, or I surprise myself. The wonderful thing about music is that it's ageless."
